{"id":560,"date":"2021-07-05T09:04:47","date_gmt":"2021-07-05T09:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.proscholar.org\/jcis\/?page_id=560"},"modified":"2021-07-05T09:05:42","modified_gmt":"2021-07-05T09:05:42","slug":"6","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.proscholar.org\/jcis\/publications\/vol.1\/iss.1\/6\/","title":{"rendered":"Volume 1, issue 1, pp. 33-40"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"withindent\">Sternotomy is the gold standard incision for cardiac surgeons but it is also used in thoracic surgery especially for mediastinal, tracheal and main stem bronchus surgery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"withindent\">The surgical technique is well established and identification of the correct anatomic landmarks, midline tissue preparation, osteotomy and bleeding control are important steps of the procedure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"withindent\">Correct sternal closure is vital for avoiding short- and long-term morbidity and mortality.
